Former Bronx Borough President Stanley Simon pleaded not guilty to federal extortion, perjury and tax evasion charges in a case involving defense contractor Wedtech Corp. U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Griessa in Manhattan set bail at $250,000 and ordered a pretrial hearing for April 9. Simon, who resigned March 11 from his post, has been charged with extortion for allegedly demanding $50,000 from representatives of Wedtech in exchange for using his political influence.
