The Red Onion disco-restaurant chain, which was the subject of allegations of racial bias, began taking applications at its Riverside headquarters for $500 scholarships established for minority students. Members of minority groups complained that they were denied entry because of their race, and a state investigation into the complaints ended last January when five Red Onion outlets agreed to liquor license suspensions that varied from five to 10 days.
