Students Demand Rights--to Cheat
Hundreds of students at a Bangladesh secondary school assaulted teachers and burned a school building in a demonstration demanding the right to cheat during examinations.
Officials said the protests Wednesday in Shibganj, in the northern part of the country, began when students marched out of an examination hall shouting, “We seek the right to copy!” and “Allow friends to help us!” Startled authorities called in police to break up the protests, in which students tore up examination papers, assaulted monitors and set a building on fire.
Police refused to intervene, however, saying any action on their part could spark protests in other examination centers.
