Two controversial Soviet films released under Kremlin leader Mikhail Gorbachev’s policy of openness will be shown at this year’s Cannes film festival, a Soviet newspaper reported Friday.

The youth daily Komsomolskaya Pravda quoted Alexander Kamshalov, chairman of the state cinema authority Goskino, as saying the films “Repentance” and “Is It Easy to Be Young?” had created so much interest abroad that the Soviet Union had decided to screen them at the festival.
