Greek Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou said his government plans to take over most of the property of former King Constantine, estimated to be worth about $40 million. Papandreou, speaking at a ceremony in central Greece, said that property near Athens containing the graves of the ex-king’s family will be exempted from the takeover plan. Constantine lives in London. He fled to Britain after an abortive coup attempt in 1967 against the military government that ruled Greece at the time. Papandreou’s remarks came a day after the government approved a bill providing for the takeover of 325,000 acres of land held by the Greek Orthodox Church.
