Iraq said its warplanes raided Iran’s offshore oil fields of Cyrus and Ardeshir in the Persian Gulf and a pipeline complex at Ganaveh, which feeds Iran’s oil export terminal at Kharg Island. A military spokesman said all the planes returned safely to base after hitting their targets. However, Iran said “no mentionable damage” was sustained and that two of the Iraqi aircraft were downed. The attacks came as both sides reportedly sought to increase their oil production to pay for the war.
