Pan Am started hiring pilots again.

For the first time in 19 years, the eighth-largest U.S. carrier said it needed to employ additional pilots and flight engineers. Last October’s inauguration of the Pan Am shuttle--between New York, Washington and Boston--has created the demand. Under the two-tiered wage scale, recently agreed on by the airline and the Air Line Pilots Assn., the starting salary is $1,500 a month.
