Antarctic Pact Signed

WELLINGTON, New Zealand —
Italy and New Zealand signed an agreement Wednesday on cooperation in the Antarctic, where Italy has established a base at Terra Nova Bay in the New Zealand-claimed Ross Dependency. Diplomats said the pact will enable Italy to ship supplies to Antarctica through New Zealand without having to clear customs or pay duties.
