New Jersey is the state receiving the most money from the Superfund toxic waste cleanup, said Rep. James J. Florio, the New Jersey Democrat who led the fight to create the multibillion-dollar fund. “We wrote the law to make sure that the states with the most problems get the most help,” Florio said. New Jersey is receiving $73.2 million, or 17.5%, of the $417.3 million appropriated this year under the $9 billion, five-year program. Following New Jersey is Pennsylvania with $66.3 million, Massachusetts with $55.3 million, and California with $42.4 million.
