Chinese authorities in Canton have banned disco dancing for students--a hot item since the nation began its “open door” policy in 1979--after an alarming decline in academic standards, the Canton Evening Post reported Monday. The paper reported that the decision was made by the city’s education department, which said the quality of schoolwork had been falling in recent years. Hotels and discotheques will be fined if they are found to have admitted students.
