Youth Shot in Back; Girlfriend’s Dad Held
A Spring Valley man is in County Jail in lieu of $3,000 bail, suspected of shooting a young boy in the back after the boy and a friend came to visit his daughter Sunday night.
John Jessee, 16, of El Cajon was in fair condition at Mercy Hospital Monday night. The two boys went to James D. Crandall’s home about 9:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of South Barcelona Street to visit the man’s daughter, sheriff’s homicide Sgt. Chuck Curtis said. When the father told the boys she was not home, the boys lingered in the driveway.
Curtis said that, as the boys were preparing to drive away, Crandall approached the car with a rifle. Shots were fired in the boys’ direction as they drove off, and Jessee was hit in the back by one shot.
