The State Department is re-examining its policy on Iran’s main opposition group, the Moujahedeen, which has been accused of terrorism. The decision to take a fresh look at the Moujahedeen came after House members said the United States should at least talk with the group as part of a strategy of reaching out to Iranians opposed to the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Earlier this month, the State Department reiterated its 1985 stand that mere opposition to Khomeini “is no reason for us to support a group which has engaged in terrorist actions for several years.”
