Philadelphia Mayor W. Wilson Goode testified for five hours before a grand jury investigating whether there was criminal wrongdoing in the 1985 MOVE battle in which 11 people were killed and 61 houses destroyed. Goode said afterward that he had “answered all questions truthfully and honestly.” Sources close to the proceedings said many questions were aimed at determining when Goode gave an order to extinguish the fire that erupted on May 13, 1985, when police dropped a bomb on the roof of the fortified row house of MOVE, a radical anti-authority cult.
