Trains Set Afire in South Africa
From Reuters
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa —
Trains were set ablaze at four railway stations in the Johannesburg area today in the latest wave of arson attacks, the government said.
It was the third successive day that trains had been firebombed on commuter lines to Soweto, South Africa’s biggest black township. Witnesses said hundreds of black workers were walking the six miles back home to Soweto. They reported a strong security presence. An unruly crowd of 2,000 blacks was dispersed with tear gas at one station as the evening rush hour got under way.
