An outbreak of illness caused by too much thyroid hormone has been traced to hamburger that contained pieces of thyroid gland that was inadvertently mixed with the meat, a study concluded. Doctors from the Minnesota Department of Health, reporting in the New England Journal of Medicine, linked the outbreak to a single slaughterhouse that used neck meat in its hamburger.
