Israeli warplanes crisscrossed Lebanon on apparent reconnaissance flights, one day after Syrian troops extended their deployment to within 35 miles of Israel. Lebanese security sources said two Israeli warplanes made several passes over Beirut, southern Lebanon and the Shouf Mountains. The flights were aimed at inspecting new positions taken up by Syrian troops along the strategic coastal road south of Beirut to the Awwali River, just north of Sidon.
