A federal judge ordered the release of court documents detailing an FBI investigation of Morton Thiokol Inc., builder of the solid rocket boosters that triggered the shuttle Challenger accident. Judge Harold Greene in Washington granted a motion by the Chicago-based company to release the sealed papers, which were filed by the federal government in a $4-billion civil lawsuit against the company by former Thiokol engineer Roger Boisjoly, which charges the deaths of the Challenger astronauts were “criminal homicides.” The investigation was disclosed when documents relating to the suit were accidentally unsealed by the court.
