An unmanned Progress 29 transport spaceship with supplies for the Soviet Union’s orbiting Mir space station was launched and is functioning normally, the official news agency Tass said. Tass did not describe the type of materials being taken to Mir, where two cosmonauts, Yuri Romanenko and Alexander Laveikin, have been living and working since March 6. Mir was launched in February, 1986. It is scheduled to become the heart of the world’s first permanently manned orbiting space station.
