ISLAMABAD, Pakistan —
Twenty women and children in a wedding procession were feared drowned when a tractor-driven trolley they were riding fell from a bridge into an irrigation canal in Pakistan’s Punjab province, police said Saturday.
They said the accident occurred Friday night near Bahawalpur, 300 miles south of Islamabad, when several tractor-driven trolleys carrying 50 members of a wedding party were racing to the bridegroom’s village. The newlyweds, in a separate car, were safe, police said.
