Cincinnati-based United Brands reported net income for the quarter ended March 31 of $14.4 million, up 11% from the same quarter last year. Earnings increases from John Morrell, Rath Black Hawk and other branded meat products were partially offset by costs incurred in connection with the company’s expansion of its line of Chiquita consumer packaged products, the company said. Additionally, the 1986 quarter included revenue and earnings of the United Kingdom produce business and domestic animal feeds operation, both of which were sold later that year.
