New, Silver Medal to Be Struck for Volunteers

WASHINGTON —
President Reagan has established a new medal for outstanding volunteer service.
Reagan on Tuesday signed an executive order creating the President’s Volunteer Action Award, to be given for “helping others in our society.”
The order lists 10 categories of service eligible for the sterling silver medallion: arts and humanities, education, the environment, health, human services, international aid, mobilization of volunteers, public safety, youth, and the workplace.
