Claremont : Club Remains Men-Only

Share

Members of the Claremont University Club have voted not to admit women to their male-only organization. In mail-in balloting last week, the proposal to amend the club’s bylaws was defeated 180 to 160.

It was the third attempt in the last decade to include women in the 63-year-old club, which is an autonomous organization not affiliated with the six Claremont colleges or with other University Clubs.

Composed mostly of professional retired men with an average age of 72, the club’s membership narrowly defeated the proposal last year by a vote of 120 to 116.

Several of the club members who had petitioned for the change vowed to introduce the proposal again.
