Former Metropolitan Opera general manager Sir Rudolf Bing, whose $900,000 in assets were frozen in the United States when a judge ruled him incompetent, has moved with his wife to a luxury motel in England after being offered three months’ free lodging and meals. Bing, 85, and his wife moved to the Cottage Motel in nearby Mirfield on Friday night from a boarding house in a run-down section of Leeds. On April 27, the couple’s presence in Leeds became known when the Bings had left a hotel in nearby Otley without paying a $580 bill. Peter Bunch, owner of the Cottage Motel and an opera lover, said that he was delighted the Bings accepted his offer.
