A group of parents, clergy and social workers in Seattle claim that “Raising Arizona” encourages child abuse, neglect and kidnapping. They are staging protests at theaters showing the movie. The farcical story of an ex-convict whose wife goads him into kidnapping a baby from a family with quintuplets “encourages people to view children as objects and, in that way, encourages child abuse, child neglect and kidnap,” said Mike Zink, pastor of Family Life Center in Seattle. Protesters outside Alderwood Mall Grand Cinemas on Saturday carried signs that read “Big Bucks in Baby Abuse” and handed out flyers. They said they hope to persuade people to boycott the movie.
