Pan Am Corp., New York, parent company of Pan American World Airways, reported that its first-quarter net loss narrowed to $93.6 million from $118.4 million reported in last year’s first quarter. The operating loss improved to $55.8 million, compared to $78.5 million a year before. The company said all of the operating loss was incurred in the first two months of the quarter, and in March, the company recorded an operating profit. The firm attributed the improved results primarily to stronger traffic reported by its principal airline subsidiary, Pan American World Airways.
