Countywide : Airport Land Transport Panel May Be Created
- Share via
The Airport Commission will be asked at its May 20 meeting to create an authority to issue permits to companies that provide land transportation at John Wayne Airport, George A. Rebella, airport manager, said. Currently, there is no licensing agency to register public transportation vehicles.
Rebella said the new authority is needed to cut down on the traffic of public transportation vehicles at the crowded airport.
“We want to help (alleviate) the wear and tear of the streets,” he said.
Rebella said that if the authority is created it will decide how to register public transportation vehicles and how much to charge for permits.
The commission also is scheduled to consider an ordinance that would officially forbid airlines to schedule departures from the airport after 9:30 p.m., a policy that is already in effect.
