PADANG, Indonesia —
The death toll from a landslide in West Sumatra reached 55 Wednesday as rescue workers used axes, shovels and bulldozers to search for at least 40 more people believed still buried.
Another 51 people were injured, a spokesman of the search and rescue team said. Officials from the governor’s office said heavy tropical rains caused Monday’s landslide, about 45 miles from the West Sumatra provincial capital of Padang.
