13-Year Louisville Race Bias Suit Is Settled

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
A 13-year-old racial discrimination suit against the city over police hiring practices has been settled after a group of 96 blacks accepted a $3.5-million offer.
If the settlement is approved by a federal judge, the blacks who filed suit will also receive hiring preference during the next two years for city jobs for which they qualify.
