In a daring flight to freedom in the West, a Czechoslovakian man in a motorized hang-glider eluded two military jets and flew over his Communist nation’s border to West Germany, police said today.

The pilot entered West German airspace Monday night just before the jets could intercept him and he landed the homemade aircraft in a Bavarian forest not far from the frontier, a Bavarian police officer said.

The pilot, a 39-year-old engineer, has applied for political asylum in West Germany, the police officer said. The man, who was not identified, secretly built the glider at his home and planned his escape for years.
