3 Mirage Jets Crash; 2 Killed

PARIS —
Three French Mirage F-1 fighter planes crashed today in southeastern France while on a low-altitude training exercise, the Defense Ministry said. Two pilots were killed instantly and a third was missing after the crash outside the village of St. Chamond, near Lyon, a ministry statement said.
Air Force command launched an investigation to try to determine the cause of the accident, the most costly loss of French military aircraft in recent memory, it said.
