Trans World Airlines hired lobbyist Michael K. Deaver during a 1985 takeover fight because he provided “real access” to the Reagan Administration, the prosecutor in Deaver’s perjury case charged. Deaver “committed perjury as part of a cover-up of his entire operation,” independent counsel Whitney North Seymour Jr. said. Seymour, who will prosecute the case against the former deputy White House chief of staff, defended the validity of a charge that Deaver lied about his lobbying for TWA.
