Teen Parents Cost U.S. $18 Billion, Center Says

WASHINGTON —
Taxpayers spent nearly $18 billion last year on food stamps, medical care and cash assistance for all families begun as a result of a teen-ager giving birth, the Center for Population Options said in a report Wednesday.
The center, which seeks to prevent adolescent pregnancies, said its projections are conservative because they do not include expenditures for public housing, special education, child care, foster care, child protective services and other social services.
