Strong thunderstorms brought heavy rainfall, wind damage, and flood and tornado watches to a wide area of the nation’s midsection. Thunderstorm winds in Wichita, Kan., were clocked at more than 50 m.p.h. Damage from high winds was reported near Oxford, Kan. Flooding continued in parts of southwestern Iowa, including floods along the Nishnabotna River that were described as the worst in 40 years and several towns were evacuated. Flood warnings or watches also were posted in parts of Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma and Kansas.
