With televangelism under siege, it might come as a surprise that there’s a religious network run by Catholic Franciscan nuns that isn’t concerned with its ratings. “We have 17 nuns praying all the time,” Mother Mary Angelica, head of the Eternal World Television Network told Associated Press. “That’s our life. Television is not our life.” Mother Angelica, 64, a former advertising copywriter who joined the order after prayers relieved severe pain, said the Birmingham, Ala.-based network is carried by 360 cable systems nationwide with a potential audience of 8 million--but added she’s not counting. “I can’t imagine the Lord saying, ‘Well, today we reached 3,000 souls.’ In the church, even if you reach one soul, it’s enough.”
