BEIRUT — A Lebanese editor with close ties to Iran said today the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini has formed a five-man committee to help resolve the issue of Western hostages in Lebanon.
Hassan Sabra, editor of the weekly Ash Shiraa magazine that unveiled the U.S. arms-for-hostages scandal last November, said the committee was formed at Khomeini’s order in April to send a message that the hostages’ issue was open for negotiations. “The hostages have become chickens who lay golden eggs for Iran,” Sabra said.
