‘THE CAVANAUGHS’ RENEWED BY CBS

CBS has reversed itself and reordered “The Cavanaughs” as a replacement series for the 1987-88 season, Robert Moloney, the show’s producer, said Friday.

“The Cavanaughs,” a half-hour comedy about a working-class Irish Catholic family in Boston, premiered Dec. 1. Thirteen episodes were aired before CBS cancelled the series this spring, apparently because of low ratings.

But network executives changed their minds and ordered more episodes because “they know something is going on with this show,” Moloney said.
