Texas prisons, closed to new admissions after exceeding a state-mandated 95% of capacity, began paroling more than 200 inmates to help ease overcrowding, spokesman Charles Brown said. The prisons had closed to new inmates Friday for the 12th time this year and will remain closed Monday, he said. The inmate count for Friday and the weekend will not be available until sometime Monday, and prisons will remain closed if the count does not fall far enough. “I think we’ll be able to open on Tuesday,” Brown said.
