“Late Night With David Letterman” got a favorable response to its inquiries about taking the show to Havana, the show’s producer said Thursday, but Cuban bureaucracy moved so slowly that the show went to Las Vegas instead. Barry Sand said he met several times with Cuban officials in New York, who said they liked the offbeat show. Sand left open the possibility of a future trip to the Communist island nation. Sand said Letterman, an avid fan of baseball and stogies, hoped to talk cigars and the game with Castro. Castro has given up his trademark cigar as unhealthy, but he did once aspire to be a professional baseball player.
