Thurston H. Ross was presented the Y. T. Lum Award for distinguished contributions to the advancement of knowledge and education in the real estate counseling profession, at a meeting of the Southern California chapter of the American Society of Real Estate Counselors.

Ross, 93, and affectionately known as “Doc”, is the first recipient of the award instituted by the Lum family in the name of Y. T. Lum, a former counselor of real estate, as a donation to the society’s Educational Development Trust Fund.

In 1927, Ross developed a course in real estate appraisal for USC and has since written several books on real estate evaluation. He served as real estate evaluation counselor as director of Home Savings & Loan Assn. and was considered an expert on industrial and major real estate loans.
