Matt and Kitty are returning. That’s right: A “Gunsmoke” reunion film is in the works for CBS, with James Arness back as Marshal Matt Dillon and Amanda Blake as Kitty, his longtime friend from the Long Branch saloon. The movie is set 12 years after the series ended, with Matt in retirement. Also in the cast are Earl Holliman, Steve Forrest, Buck Taylor and Fran Ryan.

That isn’t the only reunion in the works. The cast of “Eight Is Enough” is making a two-hour film for NBC, pegged to a family get-together in which father Tom Bradford’s 50th birthday is being celebrated. Back from the original cast are Dick Van Patten, Willie Aames, Grant Goodeve, Dianne Kay, Connie Needham, Lani O’Grady, Adam Rich, Susan Richardson and Laurie Walters. Mary Frann, who plays Bob Newhart’s wife on “Newhart,” will be seen as Bradford’s wife, Abby.

Jill Eikenberry and Michael Tucker of “L.A. Law,” who are happily married in real life, will be seen as a decidedly unhappy married couple in “Assault and Matrimony.” It’s a comedy film for NBC about a husband and wife trying to kill each other. On “L.A. Law,” Eikenberry plays Ann Kelsey and Tucker portrays Stuart Markowitz.
