Miss Alabama Gives Up Her Title After 2 Days
Associated Press
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
Miss Alabama gave up the title today, just two days after she won it, saying she had thought over the duties required for the next year and decided instead to “get on with my career and my life.”
Julie Hitt, 25, did not attend a news conference when the announcement was made. But a letter from her was read by Nora Chapman, executive director of the pageant, who said she knew of no other motive for Hitt’s decision.
