Angels Say No to Alcohol in Air and Clubhouse
- Share via
KANSAS CITY — An Angel spokesman said Sunday that the team has banned alcoholic beverages from the clubhouse and all team flights because of recent court rulings that, in the club’s interpretation, make the provider of such beverages liable for accidents or injuries inflicted by the person provided with the alcohol.
Angel publicist Tim Mead also said that the Angels received calls and letters from anti-alcohol groups, including Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, after pitcher John Candelaria was arrested twice within four weeks for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
The players were informed via a memo from General Manager Mike Port of the ban, which went into effect during the team’s weekend series in Kansas City against the Royals.
Reached by telephone Sunday, Port refused to discuss the ban.
