A jury began deliberating whether to recommend a death sentence for a South Carolina man convicted of the torture-murder of a pizza deliveryman. The only other possible sentence at the penalty phase of the Pasadena Superior Court murder trial of Mitchell Sims is life in prison without the possibility of parole. Sims, 26, was convicted last month of the robbery and torture-murder of Domino’s Pizza deliveryman John Harrigan, 21, in a Glendale motel room on Dec. 9, 1985. Sims was also convicted of robbing and attempting to murder two other Glendale Domino’s employees that same evening.
