Two Royal Air Force military jet planes collided over mountainous territory in northwestern England’s Lake District on Wednesday, killing the lone pilot of one aircraft, a Defense Ministry spokesman said Thursday.

The two-man crew of the second jet--a Tornado--ejected. They suffered burns on their hands and faces but were not badly hurt, said the spokesman, unidentified in keeping with British practice.

After a search by military helicopters and a mountain rescue team, the body of the Jaguar fighter-trainer’s pilot was found in the aircraft’s wreckage at Castlerigg in Thirlmere, two miles from where the Tornado went down.
