Man Seized With Heroin Sentenced to Death in Burma
A man caught with more than 37 pounds of heroin has been sentenced to death by a court in Mandalay, state-run newspapers said Friday.
The reports said a man identified as Sao Pong and two other men and two women were found with 36 packets of heroin weighing more than 37 pounds when military intelligence agents and police raided a house in 1984.
The court found Sao Pong guilty of possessing the heroin with intent to sell and sentenced him to death. The two women were given sentences of 10 and seven years in prison, while a fourth defendant was given a 7-year jail term.
The fifth defendant was acquitted.
