A dining table and eight chairs designed by the famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright sold for $594,000 in New York on Saturday--a world record auction price for a piece of 20th Century furniture. “We thought there was a chance of a world record,” said Nancy McClelland, a specialist in Arts and Crafts and Furniture for the Christie’s auction house. “When you have exceptional items, you expect high prices.” The bid, which included a 10% commission, beat the previous record of $449,000 set two years ago in Paris for a 1930 games table and chairs by Jean Dunand.
