Contra Attacks in Nicaragua
Matamoros obviously is preparing the ground for a contra request for another appropriation from Congress by trying to justify the murder by the contras of Ben Linder, a U.S. citizen, a civilian.
The contra murder of Linder contrasts with the generosity of the Sandinista government in releasing for return to the United States of captured Eugene Hasenfus, a U.S. mercenary downed while flying war material to the contras.
The U.S. government, or more justly President Reagan, stands condemned by the World Court for waging undeclared and cruel war on Nicaragua. The Administration couldn’t muster the courage to defend Reagan, the CIA and the State Department before that world tribunal. Linder was another casualty in that war.
