Dickerson’s Celebrity Golf Tournament Is Postponed; He’ll Go Camping Instead

A snag has developed in the first Eric Dickerson “Just Say No to Drugs” celebrity golf tournament at Encino Golf Course.

There are no celebrities.

“We thought they would be there,” said Al Goldfarb, public relations director for the Department of Recreation and Parks. “Rather than proceeding, we have decided to put it off to a date when more celebrities are available.”

The fund-raising event, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed indefinitely. Eighteen foursomes were supposed to compete in the 18-hole, shotgun-start event. Each golfer was to donate $100, which includes greens fees, golf cart, buffet lunch and a free raffle. The proceeds were to benefit Dickerson’s Rangers clubs throughout the city.

In lieu of his golf tournament, the Ram running back will participate in a camping event Saturday at Chatsworth Park. Dickerson will join more than 300 Rangers in the overnight program starting at 4:30 p.m.

The clubs offers social, cultural and athletic activities for youths ages 7 to 12. They are in their second year.
