Weinberger’s Call for Testing

Share

I was impressed by Sybert’s well-reasoned arguments and I am pleased to learn that we are developing more precise, smaller and more humane nuclear weapons.

Would it not make sense to share the weapons with the Soviet Union so that in any nuclear exchange, we too would be exposed to humane, less destructive and more survivable bombs instead of their “brute force low-technology” bombs that are more destructive, less humane, etc.?

Since deterrence with present and previous weapons in our stockpile has kept the peace (some peace!) for 40 years now, can we not discontinue testing and depend on old weapons to keep the peace until statesmen negotiate some realistic agreements that will move us closer to a real peace?
