New Zealand Prime Minister David Lange announced a general election for Aug. 15 in a bid to secure a second three-year term for his Labor Party government. The Labor Party holds 55 seats in the 95-member Parliament, a margin of 17 over the National Party’s 38. An opinion poll released this week showed that 61% of New Zealanders who were questioned support Labor and 35% favor the National Party.
